BNR Supercars R33 RB25DET Turbocharger Upgrade

BNR Supercars has done quite a few of these T3 turbocharger upgrades over the past several years.  Since these R33’s are getting more popular to import to the US, enthusiast always look for ways to improve the performance of the engine.  The easiest way to make the biggest bang for the buck  is to upgrade the turbocharger.  This is where BNR comes in to help you out!

The factory RB25 turbocharger isn’t robust at all.  It comes with a ceramic turbine wheel and composite (plastic) compressor wheel.  That’s right! A plastic compressor wheel!    These turbochargers seem to go full tilt around 300 WHP.  Not bat for a stock turbocharger, but after time that ceramic turbine wheel will shear from the shaft from too much stress of over-speeding!  The stock engines are only reliable to 500 RWHP so our approach is to engineer a turbocharger that is “bolt-up” that can test the limits of the stock engine.

There is a lot of options out there.  A T3/T4 can be fitted in the factory turbine housing of the turbocharger.  We like using the factory RB25 exhaust housing because of the 5 bolt turbine outlet flange.  It is unique to the down pipe flange so we machine the turbine housing accept our Garrett T3/T4 front half!  We do not use anything else out of your original turbocharger.  We like to keep things relatively simple and have 2 compressor wheel options.  The Stage 1 compressor wheel flows 49 lb/min and the stage 2 compressor wheel flows 58 lb/min.  Each lb/min is equal to 10 BHP.  The Stage 1 is capable of 400-420 RWHP while the response and street manners are very pleasant.  The stage 1 is also great for auto cross and road racing!  However the 58 lb/min Stage 2 can generate up to 500 WHP with decent response!  It is more along the lines of highway or drag racing.  The CHRA (center housing rotating assembly) in both upgrades is a brand new.   It utilizes a T3 high-flow turbine shaft, high-performance 360 thrust bearing assembly, billet t04B seal plate, and a water cooled center housing.  Both of these turbocharger upgrade options would make a great addition to your GTR!
